California credit union leaders this year are joining a national partnership with Credit Union Miracle Day — an alliance that will bring together the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run in Washington, DC, and the Credit Union SacTown Ten-Mile Run in Sacramento, CA.
“We’re working together to raise money for children’s hospitals and increase awareness of credit unions,” says Diana Dykstra, CEO, California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues. “And, credit unions in every state have the opportunity to be a part of it.” Credit Union Miracle Day supports three other races for troops and federal employees serving overseas.
For the last 10 years, Credit Union Miracle Day has been the title sponsor of the annual Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run, contributing more than $5 million to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals across the country. The Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run, which will be held along with the other four races on April 1, is the single largest national fundraiser for Credit Unions for Kids supporting CMN hospitals across the nation. Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals treat 17 million critically ill children annually, regardless of their ability to pay.
Race officials wanted to raise national awareness of credit unions by holding all the races on the same day.
“More than 100 members of Congress have signed on as honorary race co-chairs, and we expect many more to do so before April 1,” says Juri Valdov, CUMD Chairman. “Credit unions and Leagues in every state have the opportunity to take advantage of this visibility with Congress, by becoming a sponsor, and the sponsorship dollars go back to their local hospitals, a double bonus.”
Credit unions and leagues interested in seeing if their member of Congress is a race co-chair can visit www.miracleday.org, which is regularly updated with new co-chairs and sponsorship information.
John Pamer, CEO of Diablo Valley Federal Credit Union and Chairman of the Credit Union SacTown Ten-Mile Run, has participated in the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run and says he is “so impressed by the impact credit unions have had, both in terms of fund raising for CUs for Kids as well as raising awareness of credit unions in our nation’s capital.”
“By having races run simultaneously on both coasts and overseas, we have an unprecedented opportunity to focus national attention on the good works of credit unions,” he says.
