Expansion of Total Credit Card Lines: Credit Unions vs. Banks

Credit unions have extended the total number of credit card lines, increasing $4.6 billion, or 4.5%, over June 2008 levels. Over the same period FDIC-insured institutions cut lines by $880 billion, a decrease of 18.5%. With tighter regulations from the 2009 CARD act set to commence over the next year potentially limiting future revenue from card portfolios, this trend may continue building opportunity for credit unions.
